About my most memorable vacation
My very first morning in Australia I woke early to take in the sights and sounds of my expansive, elegant, peaceful pavilion in the heart of Australia's Whitsunday Islands. Following a serene breakfast of tropical fruits and cloud like pancakes I was told to wait in a clearing for the morning's activity. Told to dress in a bathing suit and bring a towel and sunscreen I had a hint of what was to come. The morning was perfect with clear blue skies and a temperature just warm enough to soak in the sunshine, without melting into a sticky sweat.
Before long I heard a faint chopping, pulsating noise. Looking to the sky, off in the distance was a little black dot. A bird? A plane? Was it Superman? As the dot and the noise moved closer I could see the blades of a helicopter spinning around and coming ever closer to my perch on an old tree stump. It landed in a clearing and out jumped a gorgeous, young pilot, a cross between Chris Hemsworth and Sam Worthington. This was my lucky day! After helping me into the whirlybird we were ready to go. Hovering over the meadow for what seemed like an eternity, suddenly we were off! I reminded myself not to touch any of the controls in front of me and closed my eyes for a minute to savor the moment. When I opened my eyes again we were soaring over an ocean with every shade of blue and green imaginable. The sun's sparkle turned the waves into an ocean of diamonds. We landed on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Whitehaven Beach. The pilot spread a blanket and provided champagne and fruit, and a walkie talkie to summon him from another part of the island when I was ready to go. Walking the beach I only encountered the occasional bird prints in the sand. Maybe a laughing kookaburra? I certainly hoped to run into one of those. Do they really laugh? I walked about a half mile in each direction and was so impressed with the serenity and beauty of being on this magical beach. Contact me to read the rest!
