I haven't been everywhere but it is on my list!
About me
Growing up in Australia I learnt about that rest of the world. At the earliest chance I took off and backpacked around Europe. From that point on, I was hooked on travel and knew that I wanted to make it my life's career. I travel whenever possible and I love to immerse myself in where I am and find the uniqueness of different areas of the world. I love to be active when I travel and enjoy hiking, biking and kayaking. I like to wander a city for hours with my camera taking photos of the daily life and finding those areas where the tourists don't go. I enjoy going into remote destinations that you can only get to by boat. I like to stay in eco-lodges or boutique properties that are indicative of the area that I am visiting. I am a traveler not a tourist. The world is vast and I want to experience it all.
Why I love my job
These days travel is experiential. Travelers want to immerse themselves and really experience a destination. Through first hand knowledge that I get from my travels plus trainings, seminars and conferences that I attend enable me to find those unique and memorable experiences for clients. Be it a an up and coming destination, or a unique type of accommodation, or that boutique winery in the Colchagua Valley in Chile, I am passionate about planning the best trips for my clients and to customize their travels so as to have the most memorable experiences. My reward is when my clients return and say it was their best trip ever!
Favorite Destinations
As passionate as I am about travel, I love all destinations. Each one is different enough from the next that I love to explore everywhere. Probably though the one I can go back to over and over again is Italy. Even though a small country, there is so much variety that you can discover new areas every time you visit - hiking in the Dolomiti Mountains in the north, wine tasting while on a bike tour through Tuscany, enjoying the picturesque island of Capri, shopping the leather markets of Florence, exploring the history of Rome as well as exploring the varied landscapes of Sicily. The people are friendly, the food is delicious and the smells to die for. The wine is exceptional, the shopping is fantastic, and the friendliness and warmth of the people all make you want to go back again and again. I always come back from a trip to Italy passionate about life.
About my most memorable vacation
I have had two fantastic trips in the past year. An adventure up to the sub Arctic of Canada to see the polar bears was a bucket list trip for me. These gorgeous, huge yet extremely dangerous animals were a sight beyond compare. Nothing could prepare you for their beauty and at over one thousand pounds and making no noise there it was an incredible experience. The surrounding tundra landscape although harsh was so picturesque and beautiful in its own way. It was a wonderful trip.
An invitation only conference in Marrakesh for experiential travel took me back to Morocco for the first time in many years. It was wonderful to see the country again and even though there were numerous changes, nothing much had really changed. It was fascinating to wander the medina and souks of the old city. The colors, the smells, and the daily life of people was quite an experience and I could have spent hours just wandering. However the highlight was a trip up to the nearby Atlas Mountains. This was like a trip back in time. Traveling through small villages you passed donkeys laden with goods and people, camel trains, travelers hiking up to kasbahs where they were staying and locals walking up the mountain to their local villages. It was an eye opening and amazing experience. I can't wait to go back.
