James O. Gregory

Deputy Assistant Administrator, TSA’s Office of Strategic Communications and Public Affairs

James Gregory was named Deputy Assistant Administrator for TSA’s Office of Strategic Communications and Public Affairs in June 2017. 

Previously, he was the Director of Media Relations at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. While there, he led the university’s media relations team, advised senior administrators and the chancellor on media issues, and served as the primary university spokesperson.

Gregory also served more than 22 years in the United States Army in various positions within the 1st Cavalry Division, 3rd Special Forces Group and U.S. Army Special Operations Command. His final position was as a press officer in the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs where he supported first the Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence and then the Undersecretary of Defense for Policy. Additionally, he has deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom in both operational and public affairs roles.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from James Madison University and a master’s degree in strategic public relations from the University of Southern California.
